Tips To Better Facilities Management Recruitment

Even if you hire a company that handles the facilities management recruitment for you, you are still left with a few candidates that must be given a final interview. The hiring process ultimately falls to you. While all candidates sitting in front of you will be capable of performing the job, you want to ensure you choose the very best person for the FM jobs you have open.

There are some tips to consider when you are involved in facilities management recruitment.

Focus on the demands of the job. Make a list of all the different tasks that a person will be required to perform within the various jobs you have open. By creating a list, it will be easier to see what a person can and can’t do. You may have to do some training but if you can ensure that a person can basically hit the ground running, it will save a lot of time and money for your company.

Ask in-depth questions. You don’t want to ask a bunch of yes and no questions during facilities management recruitment. You need to put the candidates in various scenarios to see how they would handle themselves. In most cases, the facilities manager you hire will be left to their own devices to manage things without you being there. This means that you need to trust that they are making the right decisions and considering the needs of the company.

Tour the facilities. The candidates you’re interviewing most likely have held FM jobs before. But you know as well as anyone that facilities can be very different from one another. Show the candidates the facilities and see what they have to say. Look to see if they are asking any in-depth questions on how the facilities currently operate or if they have suggestions. This is your best time to test their knowledge and see what they are really made of.

Run background checks. Whether the facilities require it or not, it’s a good idea to have background checks run on your candidates. This way you can find out if any have criminal records or questionable pasts that may interfere with their ability to perform the job in a professional manner. A facilities management recruitment firm can run these backgrounds on your behalf.

Integrate all the tips into facilities management recruitment with all FM jobs you have to hire for. You want the best but that doesn’t mean you’ll get the best. You have to take the time to ask the right questions, put the candidates in the right scenarios and then listen for the right answers. The less training a candidate needs, the better it will be for you because you can spend less money on training and development.
