Why Facilities Management Recruitment Should Be Handled Externally

Some jobs can be handled internally. Then there are other jobs that should be handled externally. Management positions should be handled by an outside recruitment firm to ensure the appropriate amount of time is being dedicated to finding the ideal candidate. Facilities management recruitment is often rushed because a company is concerned with finding the best for ‘right now’ as opposed to just the right one.

A company that deals solely in facilities management recruitment will understand the demands of the industry, the human resource aspects of recruiting as well as be able to offer psychological analysis of candidates. Your recruiting department probably doesn’t have all those capabilities, which means the ultimate person hired may not be as strong as they could have been.

Facilities management recruitment shouldn’t focus on mass CVs. It should focus on those who have already been involved in the industry and have something unique to offer a facility. Many recruitment companies have industry contacts as well as a constant supply of qualified candidates already on hand, simplifying the recruitment process.

In some situations, a company may need to get a person in right away. A recruitment company can offer short term solutions until the facilities management recruitment process can be carried out in full to identify a long term solution. This is a much better situation to be in instead of rushing the hiring process.

Some situations will require a little more subtlety as well. Confidential facilities management recruitment can be conducted. Internal recruiters talk. This could be a very bad scenario when FM jobs need to be kept out of the limelight because of replacing a person without their knowledge or without letting the client know.

Interviewing is a talent that not enough people have. A good quality interview with a qualified candidate may take an hour or more to find out where their real strengths and weaknesses lie. In depth questions need to be asked to ensure a person is right for a particular position. Many companies will rush through this in facilities management recruitment because they simply don’t have time to dedicate to the process. A recruitment company has all the time necessary to ensure all questions are asked to get to the bottom of a candidate’s ability to perform the job.

It all comes down to time and industry knowledge. FM jobs are the specialty of FM recruiting firms. Therefore it allows a company to hand off their recruitment needs to a professional outside of their own company. Whether the recruiting is confidential or not, a recruitment company can provide the time and dedication to finding the right candidate for a permanent role in a company’s facilities instead of just a short term solution.
