Here at Maxwell Stephens we feel the UK facilities management jobs market has shown some signs of improvement of late; this has been backed up with unemployment falling on a National basis (despite the economy slipping back into recession).
According to the latest report on jobs by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, uncertainty remains as companies have scaled back hiring intentions over the summer.
We feel employers are still hiring. In fact, the number of vacancies we have seen; has grown year on year but the poor confidence held by some, means clients seem to be taking a lot longer to make decisions about appointments and the whole process of recruiting has slowed down.
I think a lot of companies are struggling to recruit permanently, but again we are seeing a huge rise in interim and contract appointments.
The private sector seems to be faring better; (demand for staff in the public sector is continuing to drop) and it will be interesting to see the after effect of the Olympics. A lot of organisations have put things on hold over the summer.
Let’s hope the FM market continues its jobs recovery!
