“People need a strategy, not a strapline” – A conversation with Jim Steele

When Covid hit my world, when I had to go into Lockdown (March 23rd) I was not in a good place (Am I allowed to admit that??)

I was lost…

After 14 years of successfully building a business from scratch and having just recruited for the Queen never mind the other 259 clients…To the phone not ringing, jobs we were working on being put on hold and a tremendous amount of candidates and friends being made redundant. It was truly awful. I remember sitting with my head in my hands for at least a week.

Then from nowhere I received an email from the leader of the merry men! Not Robin Hood this time round, but a legend called Gavin Ingham. Gavin a Motivational Speaker, who’s world was equally smashed decided off his own back to release a series of FREE podcasts – simply with the mission to help people. Wow, just wow!

All the podcasts were good and each lifted me up. However there were a couple which lifted me further. I was truly privileged and humbled to interview one of these two yesterday, namely Jim Steele.

Jim is a renowned Business Speaker, Leadership Facilitator and Executive Coach – having gained experience at various levels on the organizational ladder and addressing in excess of 3000 audiences worldwide!

In this interview Jim expresses some of his key ideas around dealing with pressure, “reducing the cognitive load”, and improving mental health and resilience during these challenging times. Jim draws on his extensive experience, in addition to his knowledge of neuroscience and how the mind works, to provide a range of practical and helpful advice you can follow to persevere and change your way of thinking.

There may still be a level of uncertainty around returning to the workplace, however it is apparent that things are starting to move in the right direction. In the coming weeks and months we may start to see a gradual return to the workplace for many people, and FM professionals are going to play a huge part in getting the UK ready for work again. From social distancing guidance to advanced cleaning procedures, providing a safe and efficient workplace will be a daunting task for even the most skilled FMs out there.

The team at Maxwell Stephens have put together this guide to provide key decision makers in businesses an overview of the primary areas to be considered as they prepare the workplace for repopulation in a new, post-lockdown world.
