We are seeking an exceptional Head of Facilities and Laboratories to manage a cutting-edge pilot facility located in central London for a dynamic and innovative company in the cultivated food industry. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team in a state-of-the-art environment, supporting ongoing R&D, production, quality management, procurement, and strategic planning efforts.

Role Overview:

As the Head of Facilities and Laboratories, you will oversee the daily operations of a pioneering pilot production facility, extensive R&D labs, a professional kitchen, a hardware workshop, and a beautifully designed office space. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the company’s mission to bring cultivated products to market.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facility and Lab Operations: Manage day-to-day operations, including inventory management, ordering, and equipment installation and maintenance.

• Quality Management: Oversee a world-class quality management system including risk assessments, SOPs, food safety plans, batch records, quality reports, CoAs, and environmental monitoring.

• Team Management: Lead a team of laboratory operations technicians, R&D technicians, and procurement specialists.

• Strategic Planning: Design new buildings and facilities, ensure regulatory and statutory compliance, and plan for long-term growth to industrial scale.

• Budget Management: Handle the facilities and laboratories budget, including laboratory purchasing, supplier management, and capital equipment procurement.

• Utility Management: Oversee critical utilities such as HVAC, plumbing, temperature monitoring, gas and LN2 banks, cell banks, and access controls.

• Pilot Plant Utilities: Manage bioreactors, SIP/CIP infrastructure, water filtration, and waste disposal.

• Health and Safety: Serve as the company Health and Safety Officer, ensuring a safe working environment.

Required Experience:

• Minimum of five years' experience in facilities management within the ATMP manufacturing, fermentation, or brewery industries.

• Proven track record in running, maintaining, designing, and commissioning production facilities.

• Experience in tendering and procuring capital equipment and infrastructure, purchasing, and supplier management.

• Strong coordination skills in health and safety within an industrial research and production environment.

• Excellent understanding of utilities and facility management, including HVAC, MEP, compressed gases, and cold storage.

• Experience with electronic lab notebooks (ELN) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

• Demonstrated leadership and line management skills.

• Familiarity with microbiology, cell culture, or bioprocessing.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of cell biology and bioprocess engineering.

• Adherence to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

• NEBOSH Health and Safety Level 6 certification.

• Experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001).

• Expertise in laboratory automation.
