We recently had the privilege of supporting INTO University Partnerships, a leading provider of international student education, in appointing a Facilities Director to lead their UK estate operations.
The Challenge
INTO University Partnerships required a senior facilities professional to oversee a diverse estate portfolio, including academic buildings, student accommodation, and offices across multiple UK sites (Exeter, Newcastle, London, Manchester). The ideal candidate needed to combine operational expertise with strategic vision, managing both an internal team and external contractors while ensuring compliance, safety, and efficiency across all locations. Additionally, the role demanded leadership on sustainability initiatives and long-term estate planning.
Our Approach
Leveraging our deep network within the facilities management sector, we conducted a targeted search for candidates with:
• Proven experience in multi-site facilities leadership, including operational management and long-term planning
• Strong technical understanding of building systems, health & safety, and environmental compliance
• Experience managing budgets, suppliers, and internal teams
• Ability to lead change, influence strategy, and maintain stakeholder relationships across a complex organisation
• Commitment to fostering inclusive, high-performing teams and promoting sustainability
We focused on identifying candidates who could balance hands-on operational excellence with the ability to shape estate strategy for future growth.
The Outcome
Through a rigorous selection and interview process, we successfully placed a candidate who:
• Oversees day-to-day operations and ensures smooth running of academic, residential, and office spaces
• Manages internal teams and contractors, ensuring performance, compliance, and value for money
• Leads on sustainability and efficiency initiatives, including carbon footprint reduction and optimised space utilisation
• Drives risk management, operational improvements, and strategic estate planning
• Collaborates closely with Centre Directors, University partners, and head office to maintain safe, supportive, and efficient environments for students and staff
