Interim Project Manager Recruitment to Ensure Plain Sailing for sailGP's HQ Relocation Project

Background

SailGP is an international sailing competition that features high-performance F50 foiling catamarans, where teams compete across a season of multiple grands prix around the world.

The Challenge

Initially headquartered in New Zealand, sailGP made the decision to bring the HQ over to London. With this new direction for the organisation, sailGP approached the team at Maxwell Stephens to find an Interim Facilities Project Manager on an initial 6 month contract to help ensure a smooth transition and set up their operations in the UK.

The role holder would be responsible for managing the implementation of the new property with a particular focus on the activities required to transition a large scale facility and complex programme into live use. They would need an in-depth understanding of how to both manage a project whilst managing stakeholder engagement between external parties and internal contacts, giving progress reports and tackling any issues that may arise.

The Results

Due to the specific purpose of this role, we undertook a highly tailored head hunting project to find the ideal candidate who had the applicable skills and experience required to manage all aspects of this type of project, from the design and logistics of the fit out, to the development and provision of the Facilities Management services required.

From our extensive existing candidate database, in conjunction with a variety of advertised search activities, we approached 57 suitable candidates for the role. Through comprehensive screening and interview processes, we managed to provide a shortlist of 3 ideal candidates, all of which were interviewed by sailGP resulting in a successful appointment to the role.
