Formed in 2016, Paddy Power Betfair (PPB) is an international, multi-channel sports betting and gaming operator. They have a huge presence in the UK – with over 600 stores they are one of the fastest-growing retail businesses in the UK.  They also run some of the world’s most exciting online sports betting and gaming brands, powered by sophisticated in-house technology, innovative products and creative marketing and sporting partnerships.

PPB recently approached Maxwell Stephens to help recruit for 3 senior positions, 1 Senior Manager of CRE, Contracts and Services to be based in their London offices, and a Senior Workspace Manager HSSE and Head of HSQA to be based in their Dublin offices.

“I found the recruitment process with Maxwell Stephens to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I appreciate the regular updates and always found them to be positive and engaging. The vast resources provided were also helpful and I appreciated that I was contacted promptly before and after interview. Ultimately this resulted in a successful outcome for my career.

I would highly recommend Maxwell Stephens for anyone in the facilities sector and I would welcome working again with them in the future.”

The Positions

Senior Workspace Manager HSSE

This is a key position for PPB.  Reporting to the Head of European Workspace, the postholder has specific responsibility for managing Corporate Health, Safety, Security and Environment.  A key aspect of the role was the relatively wide remit, with responsibility for a wide portfolio of global offices, including Dublin, London, Halifax, Scotland, Malta, Porto, Cluj, Milan, Sofia, Barcelona and Denmark. The successful candidate would need to define and implement HSSE processes and procedures and ensure best practices are implemented to meet the needs of this dynamic and fast paced organisation.

Head of HSQA

The overall purpose of this position is to lead the business strategy and approach to occupational health and safety compliance. The post holder would be involved in  managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within their client’s offices are adhered to.

Senior Manager CRE, Contracts and Services

This key position reports to the Head of CRE & Workspace Management, with specific responsibility for managing all contracts and services across the commercial real estate portfolio. This would include responsibilities such as overseeing procurement engagement, implement service level agreements and implementing cost and value management procedures. In addition the post holder would provide guidance on contract matters to Project Manager and other operational staff.

The Candidates

Due to the seniority of these positions, appropriate higher level qualifications were a necessity for all 3 roles. These included being educated to degree level in applicable disciplines, as well as holding suitable professional qualifications such as IOSH and NEBOSH. The ideal candidates would also be members of appropriate professional bodies such as the IPFMA and BIFM.

Obviously relevant experience was a vital consideration when recruiting for all of these senior positions. At least 5 – 10 years experience were required for all 3 positions, as well as having an in depth and detailed knowledge of the corresponding disciplines.

All 3 of these position required candidates who could quickly and effectively build relationships, using their excellent communication skills to inform and persuade a range of stakeholders. Considering the forward-thinking and dynamic corporate culture of PPB, we needed candidates who shared the companies values and could contribute to keeping PPB ahead of the curve. We needed individuals who had an adaptable and flexible approach to their work, and importantly had that streak of competitiveness needed to keep PPB on the cutting edge.
