Background
The Royal College of Music (RCM) embarked on an ambitious journey to revitalise its main campus, aiming to create state-of-the-art facilities for its students, staff, and visitors. With a successful track record, were tasked with finding the perfect candidate to lead this transformative project.
The RCM sought to enhance its South Kensington campus by redeveloping the open courtyard space, creating new social areas, performance venues, and technologically advanced spaces for rehearsals and exhibitions. Additionally, the project aimed to refurbish existing buildings, establish new connections within the campus, and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
The Challenge
We conducted an extensive search for a Head of Projects who possessed the necessary skills, experience, and qualifications to lead such a significant endeavor. After a meticulous recruitment process, they successfully identified a candidate who met the RCM's requirements and shared their vision for the project.
The Results
The selected candidate held professional qualifications from esteemed institutions such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and had extensive experience managing complex construction projects exceeding £50 million. Their expertise included developing project specifications, managing procurement processes, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
As the appointed Head of Projects, the candidate played a pivotal role in overseeing every aspect of the RCM's transformational projects. They led a multi-disciplinary team, liaised with internal and external stakeholders, and provided strategic guidance from project inception to completion. Their responsibilities encompassed project management, stakeholder engagement, financial monitoring, risk management, and compliance assurance.
Under the leadership of the Head of Projects, the RCM successfully revitalised its campus, realising the vision of the "More Music: Reimagining the RCM" campaign. The newly redeveloped courtyard space became a vibrant hub for creativity and collaboration, while existing buildings were refurbished to meet modern standards. Through effective project management and meticulous attention to detail, the RCM achieved its goal of providing world-class facilities for its community.
