Tata Steel Projects, a division of Tata Steel Europe, engaged Maxwell Stephens to recruit a Facilities Manager for its York operation.
The Challenge
Tata Steel Projects wanted a highly skilled Facilities Manager, and the brief went well beyond day-to-day building management. The role required a candidate with:
- Strong people management skills to lead and motivate a diverse team.
- Procurement and financial management expertise to manage budgets, streamline procurement processes and ensure financial efficiency.
- BSI and audit knowledge to maintain compliance with British Standards Institution (BSI) standards and lead audit processes.
- Strategy management and KPI experience to develop strategic initiatives and manage key performance indicators that move the organisation forward.
That combination is less common than it looks. Many facilities managers are strong on operations and people but have never owned procurement or led a formal audit; others have the compliance background but not the commercial one. In an industrial setting, where standards compliance is audited rather than assumed, the BSI and audit experience could not be treated as merely desirable.
