The Academy is an independent charity that represents the spectrum of medical science – from basic research through clinical application to healthcare delivery. Their vision is to improve health through research.
In October 2010 the Academy of Medical Sciences moved to newly refurbished premises following a successful £5 million fundraising appeal. The six storey, Grade II listed building built circa 1770 and modern Mews House (total 17,000 sq ft), provides a headquarters for the Academy that has its offices on two floors. We have worked closely with the Academy of Medical Sciences over the past several number on a range of exclusive recruitment campaigns, most recently on the successful appointment of a Head of Property and Facilities.
The Head of Property & Facilities is a critical role for the Academy of Medical Sciences in delivering excellence and innovation across their property and associated facilities and infrastructure, as well as supporting numerous income generating activities. Other key drivers of this appointment was supporting in the development of longer-term property strategies and delivering a range of major programmes to improve the head office facilities and start to reduce the AMS's carbon footprint.
The Head is responsible for ensuring the premises are maintained and operated to provide the best experience possible for the Academy's members, staff, customers and tenants. Critical to that is continuing to maintain and enhance the venues’ premium look and feel and working closely with hospitality and catering partners to ensure the venue offers the highest standards for traditional events, meetings and conferences. In addition, the Head is also responsible for continuing to develop security, AV, digital and hybrid services to meet the increasing demands of clients.
For this role we had to find candidates who had significant experience within a similar senior facilities management role, with extensive experience in developing and delivering major facilities projects working closely with landlords, suppliers, contractors and funders. In addition, the successful candidate needed to have recent experience of developing property strategy to support business transformation and carbon reduction, along with a track record of successfully developing a strategic partnership with suppliers.
The Head of Property and Facilities a highly visible role and part of the wider leadership team and required a good communicator and project manager, with strong leadership skills, with the ability balance multiple demands whilst maintaining high levels of customer service and excellence across day-to-day operations.
