A person’s willingness and desire to learn new things and dig deeper than the surface. It is one of the most important aspects of successful leadership. A good leader should be curious about everything. Leaders should constantly ask questions and look for new answers. People with intellectual curiosity are usually great problem solvers. This is a trait which is vital when operating in a leadership position as you are the person relied on when in difficult times and having to overcome any potential challenges which arise. People like this tend to come up with unique solutions and tackle challenges enthusiastically. This is a trait which be learnt or developed over time. Leaders can go out of their way to ask more questions to gain more knowledge, it is important to admit that they don’t know everything and stay humble because this creates better relationships with employees. So much can be learned through other people, regardless of their position within the company.

Situational Awareness

The perception of one’s environment and events whilst understanding their meaning. This is commonly broken down into three levels: perceiving, understanding and predicting. It is important for leaders to perceive any information which is relevant but it depends on their access to this information and their ability to recognize it. Leaders must be able to visualize and communicate information for their teams to operate effectively. Comprehending information is key to dealing with it properly and being able to predict future outcomes. The best leaders will constantly re-evaluate and adapt.

Managerial Courage

Tactfully dispensing direct and actional feedback. It is vital to be open and direct with others without being intimidating. You deal with people, problems and situations head-on. To be a great leader, it is important to stand alone and be willing to advocate for what you believe in. They should have a strong belief system and be willing to keep moving forward when they are pushed or criticized. Courageous leaders are able to create a culture of trust and respect which in turn makes the people around them more prepared to follow them. On top of this, having courage will give leaders the power to chase things which are most important to them. Ultimately seeing success within their department. When the best, most courageous leaders see what they want, they almost aways get it. This is no coincidence.
