Our client, a prestigious and highly respected organisation based in Central London, is seeking an outstanding Head of Building & Facilities Management to lead the strategic and operational management of a significant, multi-use heritage building.

This is a rare opportunity for a senior facilities professional to take ownership of a complex estate, lead the delivery of high-profile capital works, and ensure the ongoing safety, sustainability, and functionality of a unique, historic site.

The role offers real breadth –blending capital project leadership, strategic estate planning, and day-to-day operational excellence in a high-profile, mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide strategic leadership for all building and facilities management activities, ensuring the estate remains accessible, safe, and fit for purpose.

· Lead the successful planning and delivery of major capital works and refurbishment projects.

· Manage building maintenance, security ,infrastructure, health & safety, and environmental initiatives, preserving the building’s heritage while supporting modern use.

· Serve as the organisation’s lead for health &safety, fire strategy, safeguarding, and emergency response.

· Lead, motivate, and develop a multi-disciplinary in-house team, as well as managing external contractors and suppliers.

· Oversee relationships with leasehold tenants, including landlord responsibilities, service charges, and works programmes.

· Effectively manage departmental and project budgets, ensuring value for money and rigorous procurement processes.

The Ideal Candidate:

Our client is looking for a highly capable, hands-on leader who thrives in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment and can balance heritage considerations with modern operational needs.

Essential Experience:

· Substantial facilities and building management experience in multi-use, non-domestic premises.

· Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, building compliance, and risk management.

· Proven experience leading teams, managing contractors, and controlling substantial budgets.

· Demonstrable success delivering capital projects, refurbishments, or improvement programmes.

· NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) is essential.

· Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all levels.

Desirable:

· Experience working with heritage or listed buildings.

· Professional membership of a relevant facilities body (e.g. IWFM/BIFM).

· Qualification in building services (mechanical or electrical).

· First aid qualification.
