Our Guest speakers; Nick O’Donnell (Director of Facilities at King’s College) and Paul Rogers (MD of Cofely) raised some interesting debates which proved extremely insightful in to the world of facilities management. Nick O’Donnell spoke of the major challenges facing FM within the higher education sector. It was particularly interesting to hear how the facilities management department at King’s College makes a key contribution to their world leading status, which many people tend to overlook.
Paul Rogers; our second guest speaker of the evening also raised some interesting issues. Paul Rogers is currently working on a project South of the river, and as part of his talk he mentioned the struggle to find Brick Layers, who are now in such high demand that their average salary has increased to £100,000 a year. Overall his talk covered the issues of attracting new people in to FM and as many of our guests discussed training and development within this sector has come a long way and their companies are certainly investing more in graduate schemes and apprenticeships to ensure new people make their way in to the industry, however there still appears as though more could be done especially within smaller companies with more limited resources. It was great to see so many of our guests getting involved with this discussion.
Overall the evening was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who joined us. The staff at King’s College London particularly played a great part in the organising and running of the evening and we would like to thank everyone for all of their hard work in helping us pull off a successful first event. We are thoroughly looking forward to our next one and hope to see everyone again there.
To give you an idea of how it all went we have posted the pictures from the evening below . It looks like everyone enjoyed themselves as much as Maxwell Stephens did!
