The Brief

A leading global corporate and investment bank required an experienced Technical Services Manager to oversee critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure across its London portfolio, including a large trading environment and data centre operation. The role was business-critical, demanding a technically strong facilities professional capable of managing complex M&E systems while driving operational resilience, compliance, sustainability and contractor performance.

The Challenge

This was not a conventional building services management role. The successful candidate needed to combine:

• Experience supporting trading floors and data centre environments

• Contractor and supplier management capability

• Commercial awareness and budget management skills

• Knowledge of compliance, health & safety and operational risk

• The ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure environments

The position also required 24/7 emergency availability and the ability to manage critical plant failures with minimal operational disruption.

The client needed a recruitment partner capable of identifying candidates with both the technical depth and stakeholder management ability required within a highly regulated corporate banking environment.

Our Approach

We undertook a targeted search focused on senior facilities and technical services professionals with experience in:

• Banking and financial services environments

• Mission-critical buildings

• Data centres and trading floors

• Smart building technologies

• Energy reduction and sustainability initiatives

• Managing outsourced M&E contracts and specialist contractors

Our recruitment process concentrated heavily on cultural alignment as well as technical capability. The client required an individual who could operate confidently with senior stakeholders, external contractors, landlords and specialist consultants while maintaining a hands-on operational approach.

We also assessed candidates against the organisation’s broader strategic priorities, including sustainability, operational resilience and service excellence.

The Outcome

We successfully delivered a Technical Services Manager with extensive experience managing complex commercial and mission-critical environments.

The appointed candidate brought:

• Strong M&E technical qualifications

• Proven building services management experience

• Expertise in contractor performance management

• Experience delivering infrastructure upgrades and refurbishment projects

• Knowledge of BMS technologies and energy optimisation

• A proactive, solutions-focused leadership style

The successful hire quickly integrated into the client’s Property & Corporate Services function and took responsibility for the operational performance of critical engineering systems across the London estate.
