Background
Kitt designs and operates workspace for fast-growing brands. As its portfolio of managed offices grew, it needed an in-house Maintenance Specialist to keep existing sites running smoothly and to make sure new offices were finished to a high standard.
The role was Kitt's first line of service. When something went wrong at a site, this was the person who assessed it, fixed it or brought in the right specialist.
The Challenge
The job demanded range. In a single week the postholder might handle leaks, taps and general plumbing, tiling, minor electrical works, lock changes, decorating and light carpentry such as building cabinets, as well as supporting the operations team during tenant move-ins.
The role also required judgement. The Maintenance Specialist inspected sites, identified when major repairs were needed, and attended when contractors were on site to ensure the work met Kitt's standards. Success was measured by completing work within agreed service levels, resolving issues cost effectively, passing quality assurance by a Senior Maintenance Specialist and earning positive feedback from clients.
That is a rare combination of a skilled tradesperson and a client-facing representative. Candidates needed proven maintenance or construction experience, a working understanding of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, and the confidence to represent the business in front of clients.
Personality counted as well. Kitt wanted an expert problem solver who could think creatively, stay well organised, keep an eye on detail and spot safety problems before they happened. The person had to be comfortable both working alone on site and as part of a wider operations team.
Our Approach
- We learned how Kitt ran its sites and what a first line of service meant in practice.
- We searched maintenance and multi-skilled engineering backgrounds in workspace, serviced office and commercial property operators.
- We screened for hands-on competence across the trades listed, safety awareness and a professional manner with clients.
- We supported interviews and offer to a confirmed start.
