Maxwell Stephens have been given the exclusive responsibility to find an experienced and self-driven Assistant Director of Engineering for this role.
Based just a stone’s throw away from London Bridge, you’ll be working across a wide variety of facilities and offices throughout London.

Managing and operating to KPIs and SLAs, you’re highly motivated by targets. With your extensive senior FM management experience, you also have an in-depth understanding of H&S legislation with IOSH/NEBOSH, as well as other statutory and regulatory legislation.
You can also adapt your communication style to suit a wide variety of people; effectively communicating with your teams, vendors, contractors and customers alike.
Your organisational and management skills are second to none, and multitasking comes naturally to you. You thrive under pressure, and love holding a lot of responsibility. You’ve been accountable for managing and forecasting multi-million-pound budgets in the past, showing an industry-standard level of ability.
You would describe yourself as a structured and organised person. You’re a genuine self-starter and can keep a cool head in high pressure and high stress situations. You’re highly IT literate and confident in your budgetary management and accounting skills.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
As the Assistant Director of Engineering, you’ll play a significant role in the Estates and Facilities Senior Management Team. Overseeing a multi-discipline team of more than 100 engineers, technicians and other support staff, this is a highly responsible position that will require your extensive experience and unique skillset.
You’ll be able to offer your direction, oversight and coordination for all activities including engineering, plant operations, compliance, lifecycle replacement and major works.
Essentially, keeping the campus buildings up to scratch will be down to you. You’ll be responsible for planning all maintenance and improvement of owned and facilities, assets and equipment for our client, as well as coordinating the proper installation, operation and maintenance of all building assets, systems and services.
Our client will rely on you to ensure the uninterrupted provision of light, heat, cooling, power, water, life safety and monitoring systems and all other systems and services required to support the university’s core business.
Your budgeting know-how will come in handy as you’ll also be accountable for strategically managing an annual budget of around £10m- £15m. Your unrivalled organisational skills will come into play as you create, implement and oversee a new asset improvement pipeline for all Lifecycle, Infrastructure, and Minor Works of up to £15m per year.
In addition to this, you will also act as a representative for all asset, engineering and infrastructure management within our client’s business; providing regular written evaluations and reports to be shared across all teams and formulating and coordinating their asset management plan.
You’ll be a key player in maintaining our client’s external networks, as well as establishing strong business relationships with the financial directorate. Using your superlative interpersonal skills, you’ll work alongside various teams to ensure the smooth running of all operations.
As a team leader, you’ll be required to offer your specialist guidance and support; acting as a mentor to those within your teams to develop their own skills and understanding. You’ll undertake regular performance reviews with your staff, delivering training wherever necessary, and undertaking a wide variety of other duties.
