To create an engaging and collaborative Health and Safety culture that encourages innovation, responsibility and participation from all levels of the organisation.

  • To drive awareness of H&S as a business supporting function and lead a community of volunteer staff in raising awareness of H&S best practice and engagement initiatives. To challenge poor practice, low standards, and bad behaviour and drive improvement in H&S performance.
  • To ensure that relevant procedures and practices to comply with legislative requirements are adhered to and policy and practices are implemented and adopted across all areas of the business through a programme of proactive management.
  • Maintain registers of legal compliance requirements and evidence the organisation meets it obligations. Review status, issues and actions monthly with senior staff.
  • To manage the Security team and support colleagues with responsibilities for ensuring the working environment complies with regulatory and quality standards.
  • To work with the CR Team and other relevant stakeholders to help achieve Corporate Responsibility goals
  • To maintain an in-depth knowledge of all relevant Health and Safety and environmental requirements, including Acts of Parliament, Regulations, European Directives, Approved Codes of Practice, British Standards, industry guidance and developments in both criminal and civil law.
  • To ensure that the Health and Safety Management Committee (Group Operating Board) are kept aware of all relevant developments in legislation and decided cases, implementation of Company policy and risk reduction programmes.
  • To provide an H&S advisory and consultative service to management and staff across the Group of Companies.
  • To plan, implement, monitor and review the control measures that the Company follows and work to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.

Skills & Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of OSH legal requirements and occupational health and safety practices.
  • Broad knowledge of risk assessment practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety law and appropriate sources of information to ensure keeping abreast of developments in OSH legislation, case law and best practice both in the UK and elsewhere in the European Community.
  • Thorough understanding of best practice in accident investigation and the establishment of accident causation.
  • Maintenance of a programme of continuing professional development to fulfil the standards equivalent to those required of professional health and safety practitioners by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and externally hosted Computer Based Training Programmes .
  • In-depth knowledge of OHSAS 18001 management system requirements and auditing practices.
  • Proficient in the development and writing of policy documents and interpreting legal requirements putting them in simple language so others can understand while still being cognisant of the Company’s interests and effective operations.
