
Lead engineering strategy across a complex, high-profile estate
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced engineering and built environment leader to shape the strategic direction, technical assurance and long-term infrastructure performance of a large and complex estate.
Our client is seeking an exceptional Director of Engineering & Built Infrastructure to provide senior technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of buildings, infrastructure and major capital programmes.
You will lead the development and delivery of a long-term Infrastructure Masterplan, ensuring investment decisions balance operational requirements, risk, user experience, energy performance and whole-life value.
A key priority will be driving the organisation's decarbonisation and energy transition agenda, alongside major infrastructure improvement and lifecycle replacement programmes.
Key responsibilities
• Provide strategic engineering leadership across a complex estate of buildings and infrastructure.
• Lead the Infrastructure Masterplan and lifecycle investment strategy.
• Provide technical oversight and assurance across major construction and infrastructure programmes.
• Drive decarbonisation, energy optimisation and heat decarbonisation initiatives.
• Build and lead a high-performing Engineering & Built Infrastructure team.
• Develop consistent engineering standards, governance and professional accountability.
• Influence senior stakeholders and present complex technical issues at board level.
• Support the development of digital and smart-building capabilities.
About you
You will be an established engineering or built infrastructure leader who combines strategic vision with strong delivery capability.
You will ideally bring:
• Engineering degree or equivalent professional qualifications.
• Chartered Engineer status.
• Significant senior leadership experience within a large, complex organisation.
• Extensive experience across complex buildings, campuses and infrastructure.
• A strong track record in major construction, infrastructure, decarbonisation and lifecycle programmes.
• Experience developing estate-wide infrastructure strategies.
• Strong board-level communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading large teams, including within matrix structures.
