Maxwell Stephens’ client, a major London NHS hospital trust, is in the process of recruiting a temporary Head of Estates Operations to ensure success against four key performance indicators. Applications for the position are invited via the leading FM recruitment consultancy, Maxwell Stephens.
These KPIs are:
- the management of SLAs and ensuring budgetary targets are achieved for Estates Operational Services
- complete management and performance monitoring of the Trust Estates Operational Service and the Estates team
- provision of a safe, well-maintained, and statutorily-compliant estate for patients, visitors, and staff
- compliance and performance in multiple areas for Trust Operational Services, Hard Services, External Consultants, and Contractors.
As a member of the Estates Management Team, you will have group and individual responsibilities for defined service aspects, helping the Estates Management Department and other departments within the Trust to fulfil our client’s overall objectives.
Our client operates many sites and you will access all parts of the estates during inspections and site meetings (for which some PPE may occasionally be required). Some areas you will access may be restricted, confined, physically uncomfortable, and carry risk of contamination. You will also be required to travel occasionally to meet with third-party contractors.
Liaison and management
Reporting to the Director of Capital & Estates your key working relationships will be conducted face to face, by daily emails, letters and correspondence, telephone calls, faxes, meetings, and seminars.
Internally, you’ll build and maintain key working relationships with colleagues in engineering, estates, fire safety, nursing staff, the Trust’s Planning Directorate, heads of departments and sections, staff and staff-side reps, other Trust managers and teams, and infection control. Externally, you’ll liaise with suppliers, contractors, design teams, consultants, technical professionals, external agencies, and professional contacts in other NHS Trusts and partner organisations.
You’ll provide input towards influencing technical standards, guidance and development within the Trust.
Day to day
You’ll provide senior management to the Trust’s Estates Operational Services across all sites. You’re the professional and technical lead for the Trust, providing direction on all specialist aspects of Estates and Associated Operational Services (including legislative and regulatory).
Your role is to develop services in line with the Trust’s corporate policies, strategies and vision, planning and implementing improvement and modernisation. For this, you will need to deploy your superior resources management and planning skills, providing leadership to which the workforce will respond positively and where the outcome is excellent staff survey results.
You’ll manage and monitor all in-house and contracted-out services (particularly Hard FM) and be a key play in strategic and operational change management programs. The Trust continually updates its policies to reflect changes in statutory regulations, medical devices, decontamination, fire, and health and safety – this will be an important part of your role.
Managing a £6m budget, you’ll be responsible for:
- planning and delivering financially sustainable cost service improvements
- ensuring Estates Operational Services are delivered in a safe manner under a robust governance framework and assurance reporting
- energy and utility management including carbon reduction.
Degree educated in a relevant subject and a member of NEBOSH with a sound understanding of health and safety, this role will suit a highly experienced FM professional with experience in multi-site management.
