Maxwell Stephens have been asked to recruit on behalf of an educational facility for a Building Performance and Efficiency Manager.

Our client operates a huge estate and has experienced serious growth over the past 10 years.

The Building Performance and Efficiency Manager will be responsible for enabling a 40% energy reduction across the estate activities by 2024

Your Role

  • Identifying energy efficiency opportunities both technological and behavioural
  • Carry out building energy surveys of plant, fabric and usage to identify energy saving opportunities both through control strategy improvements and capital projects
  • To manage and deliver projects and initiatives that include recommissioning and optimisation of HVAC systems and building service infrastructure
  • Develop a building roadmap/pipeline of energy efficiency initiatives to be delivered. Including business case and cost benefits analysis.
  • Liaise with UCL stakeholders (departmental managers and academics) to agree changes to e.g. heating/cooling strategies to reduce energy use.
  • Manage an Energy BEMS Engineer to optimise operation of HVAC plant for energy efficiency and occupancy comfort.
  • Advise on HVAC control strategies to reduce energy consumption.
  • lead on the delivery of the pipeline of energy efficiency initiatives, including liaising with stakeholder groups, developing business cases and meeting programme management requirements.
  • Lead on the selection, appointment, and contractual management of contractors to undertake the projects in line with procurement policies.
  • Manage the energy efficiency project budget. Development of cost benefits budgeting model to undertake energy projects and initiatives
  • Work with the Head of Sustainable Built Environments to input into the design and commissioning of new buildings and any other major/minor refurbishments to ensure the most energy efficient outcome is achieved



Skills and Experience

  • A degree, ideally in Engineering, Energy, Building Services or a related subject. Alternatively qualified candidates that demonstrate practical experience and qualification will be considered. Membership of CIBSE, IEMA or EMA. Recognised Project Management qualification e.g. APM
  • Practical experience and technical knowledge in energy management in relation to Building Services
  • Experience delivering energy audits that evaluate the performance of building fabric, building service plant and controls
  • Knowledge of Building Energy Management Systems and their use to reduce energy consumption. Experience with Digital led/condition-based maintenance methodologies.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, report writing skills
  • Excellent project management skills. Determined and resilient
  • Competent at time management and capable of prioritising work to achieve performance targets with the minimum supervision
  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret metering data and other survey information
