Maxwell Stephens’ client is one of the “Magic Circle” group of the most prestigious UK law firms and they are recruiting a permanent Health & Safety Manager to work in the heart of London.

Maxwell Stephens, the UK’s leading facilities management recruitment company, have been appointed by the client to find an experienced professional to manage, maintain, develop, and monitor their health and safety systems in accordance with the firm’s policy, UK/EU legislation, and industry best practice.

Reporting to Senior Management you’ll be in charge of all operational aspects of our client’s OHSMS and you’ll play a pivotal role on advising on health, safety, and wellbeing matters as required.

What you’ll be doing

Your primary responsibility is to make sure that our client is protected against any and all breaches of health and safety standards. You’ll do this by establishing and maintaining risk assessments and procedures, ensuring that all relevant staff know about the OH&S documents which directly impact on their duties. Backing this up, you’ll carry out internal audits in accordance with the requirements of OHSAS18001, recording & quickly resolving all actual and potential nonconformities.

In partnership with other managers / relevant parties, you’re responsible for day to day compliance with the Legal Register and will modify procedures as and when necessary to ensure compliance (including documenting these changes). You’ll implement the correct approach to fire risk from assessment to means of detection and escape (including training and evacuation drills).

Where an accident does take place, you’ll assess what caused it including any nonconformities, followed up by putting into place the required arrangements to prevent or mitigate any further risk.

You’ll be responsible for the preparation of a number of documents and their related procedures including OHSMS budget requirements, management review agendas, controlled documents (and their availability to users) and its register, permits to work, DSE assessments, reviewing & maintaining an accredited external auditor to check for appropriate reporting frequency, and training documentation according to individual staff members’ needs.

For all H&S issues for our client, you’ll report extensively and you’ll be responsible for the correct filing of these reports for later usage. Typical duties including monitoring and reporting progress against HSE Objectives and Targets to the Management group, reporting H&S performance to senior management, and assessments on all safe systems of work for projects, construction, and routine & planned maintenance.
