Maxwell Stephens‘ client, a highly-respected multi-site education establishment in South West London, whom are recruiting a Director of Estates & Facilities whose role it is to ensure that current and future estates and facilities are and continue to be a world-class environment in which their staff and students can work, study and live.

Committed to the pursuit of excellence in research and teaching, your role will be to ensure that our client is contract compliant, fit for purpose and future-proofed. Part of this will be working in partnership with our client’s academic community developing a strategy for teaching, learning, and research space provision reflecting the ethos and desired outcomes of the university.
Planning ahead for the space requirements of our client, you’ll develop an estates strategy and lead on all major and minor capital projects on the university’s estate.
You’ll work with the procurement team ensuring compliance, managing contracts and partnerships where our client has outsourced to external providers.
Your leadership ability will provide the teams and individuals you work with the required skills and experience needed to deliver a world-class estates and facilities service. Your ability to develop and nurture talent will identify opportunities for skills and development training among the people who work for you.
You’ll review all services (internal and external) every year, ensuring that they’re fit for purposes, compliant and value for money. You’ll feed back to the Finance and Estates committee on overall strategy including risk management and capital development.
You’ll ensure that the systems for recording assets (currently Pythagoras) are properly maintained and the best use and value is gained from them.
Educated to degree level holding a chartered professional qualification in a property/building environment-related discipline, you’re an excellent written and oral communication with the ability to inspire a team and with high-level IT and financial skills. You have a proven track record in change management driven by your leadership skills.
You have experience in leading and managing large professional estates and facilities team on a mixed portfolio site (new and old buildings). You work well with local government authorities and schools as well as governing bodies and executive & corporate management teams.
You have the ability, shown in previous roles, to work at a strategic level, engaging with senior academic staff throughout the university.
You’re client-focused on the issues of Estates strategy and service delivery, able to engage with and influence business policy. You have demonstrated in previous roles that you can anticipate and determine the direction and priorities of corporate planning and thinking in a complex environment with multiple competing demands.
