A major research education establishment have appointed Maxwell Stephens to recruit a CHP Fitter to undertake mechanical and electrical roles to high standards of safety and performance on an initial Temporary Basis with the potential to progress into a more long-term position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To carry out the programmed planned maintenance on utilities plant and equipment in accordance with planned maintenance procedures. This is to include MTHW and steam boilers, CHP plant, district heating plant and their associated control systems
  • To investigate, analyse and repair faults on Utilities plant and equipment, respond to breakdown, fault and service request calls. To assist other tradesmen in completing diagnostic work and then to carry out any remedial work
  • To modify existing plant, equipment, controls and distribution systems as specified by the Utilities Manager. This to include as necessary the installation and testing of systems and completion of documentation
  • To install temporary installations when appropriate and safe to do so.
  • Proper use of spares and tools in support of the `Maintenance and operations programme.
  • Chemical testing and dosing of water systems as directed and in accordance with departmental instructions and COSSH assessments where specific training has been given.
To embrace and actively promote the Estates and Facilities Division’s Service Objectives, Values and Vision and ensure that the guiding principles are put into practice in the post holder’s day to day work and relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • To undertake testing as part of planned maintenance and also following minor installations or modifications
  • To prepare or assist in the preparation of plant for statutory inspection
  • To ensure work is completed to good working practices and statutory requirements.
  • To maintain record keeping technical and audit policies
  • To oversee contractors and other agents carrying out work in utility systems and areas
  • To comply with and utilise ‘Permit to Work and Safe Operating Procedures’.  This includes but not restricted to lone work situations, confined space, pressure and gas systems and LV/HV work.
  • To operate and interrogate computer aided building maintenance and control systems as required where specific training has been given.
  • Where qualified, the driving of vehicles that are not part of the Commercial Vehicles Agreement including on-site handling of vehicles and access equipment for which specific training has been given.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

  • Successful completion of a recognised craft apprenticeship, e.g. City and Guilds or EITB, or satisfactory completion of sill training to the same standard in mechanical / Electrical work
  • Equipped with this background, post-holders are expected to gain a thorough knowledge of Utilities plant and equipment in their area of work, and to be familiar with the underlying engineering fundamentals relating to their mechanical work
  • Working on domestic and industrial Gas Systems, pressure systems, HV/LV systems as appropriate
  • To be able to undertake basic fault finding and undertake corrective action on the BMS
  • Monitor plant status
  • Interpret alarms
  • Awareness of plant specific checks following power interruption.
  • Good knowledge of first line response to reactive calls
