Maxwell Stephens’ client is looking for an outstanding Health & Safety Coordinator to join its talented and experienced team in Middlesex.

Renowned internationally for the way it values and rewards its staff, this is your chance to join the company as it plans and executes its major goals over the coming years.

You’ll coordinate, develop and administer the company’s OHSE Management Systems. You’ll also help develop, define and monitor its programs to make sure the company achieves its set environmental targets according to both its business plan and mid-range plan. All this will be done at the same time as achieving legal, ISO9001, ISO14001 and company EMS compliance.

Your background

You have a superb grasp of H&S and environmental legislation, compliance and regulations. You bring to the role a proven, hands-on track record of EMS implementation and maintenance within a complex organisation, preferably accredited to ISO14001.

Past experience working in a fast paced environment with the ability to shape the culture and enhance the competence of the organisation as a whole would be particularly desirable for our client.

Your career has seen you deal professionally and effectively with environmental authorities, consultants and contractors. You’ve often been sent to represent your company at external events as well.

Teamwork is important. You have a way of dealing with people that encourages positive and open dialogue, especially with clients and other staff members. Your working style builds collaboration within your team, across other departments and to the people and companies outside your organisation that you deal with.

You thrive under pressure, whether you’re acting on your own or as part of a team effort. Whatever conditions you’re working under, your interpersonal skills are excellent and you balance a smart appearance with a polite, courteous and professional manner. Your organisational abilities mean you multitask very well and prioritising workload. You have a finer eye for detail and accuracy.

Educationally, you have a degree or diploma (or equivalent) in H&S and environmental disciplines. You’re very comfortable with making presentations and using computers, especially Word and Excel. You’re also a member of IOSH or IEMA.

What you’ll be doing

Compliance and excellence is second nature to our client. You’ll be expected to maintain and enforce all requirements of our client’s operations, including to legal, ISO9001, ISO14001 and company EMS standards.

Our client takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously. To that end, you’ll make sure that all appropriate systems and best practices are put to work for the control of waste, effluents, finished products, raw materials and consumables. What you do must meet the necessary standards for international, corporate and local environmental licenses, permits, regulations and initiatives. You’ll coordinate internal and external audits for OHSE, providing training to colleagues when needed.

You’ll play a big role in helping with the implementation of and control over our client’s OHSE management system. That includes manuals, plans, procedures, documentation and reporting systems. Backing that up, you’ll produce monthly reports and summaries for the company’s EMS managers and take part in accident and injury investigations, including submitting accident reports and statistics as needed. Our client will also need you to maintain COSHH register & risk assessments.

You’ll be responsible for coordinating employee OHSE training, OHSE committee meetings and all risk assessments and SOP manuals for sites, making sure that RAMS are in place where needed.

You’ll be the company champion for biodiversity across both our client’s sites and in developing positive attitudes to OHSE with your first-rate communications skills. You’ll also be responsible for making sure all H&S, fire, environmental and security measures are maintained to legislative and company requirements.
