Findings

Headline finding

Senior FM pay is the least likely to be advertised, including in our own adverts. 5 of the 7 director and executive adverts state no numeric pay, compared with 3 of the 13 adverts below that level. Every advert in this sample is a Maxwell Stephens advert, and clients often ask us not to publish senior pay. This edition shows what that looks like from the candidate's side: senior people are asked to engage before they know whether the role is affordable for them.

Methodology

Scope

This edition captures 20 unique Maxwell Stephens public vacancy adverts open on 30 September 2026 (capture 2026-09-30T12:55:17Z, Europe/London). It describes the advertised portfolio at a point in time. It does not measure the UK FM market, all recruitment mandates, applications, hires or quarterly vacancy flows.

Inclusion

An advert is included when the public Open Vacancy flag is on, the item is neither draft nor archived, it has been published, and any stated closing date has not passed. Records are deduplicated by Webflow item ID and recruitment reference. Adverts published after the cut-off are excluded and will appear in the next edition.

Pay handling

Pay is treated as disclosed when at least one numeric salary or rate is stated. Annual, daily and hourly amounts stay separate. An up-to figure is a ceiling, not a midpoint. Full-time-equivalent, pro rata and PAYE labels are preserved. No averages, annualisation or salary-growth measures are calculated. Advertised pay is not accepted offer pay.

Role families and scope

Role families and seniority use the Maxwell Stephens FM data model v1.0.0, curated manually. Role-scope summaries are editorial readings of each public advert. Where estate size, headcount, reporting line, approval limits, travel or on-call expectations are not stated, they are recorded as unknown, not as none.

Limits

One recruitment firm's visible adverts, across varied functions and seniorities, in a small sample. Confidential mandates are excluded and no client names or candidate data are added. Candidate priorities were not measured (n=0) and there is no comparable previous edition. Future comparisons require the same inclusion rules, cut-off and definitions.
